Artist Bio

Elle Nado is a Contemporary Artist from the Pueblo of Acoma. They graduated the Institute of American Indian Arts and received their bachelors in Studio Arts and Performing Art.
Their work focuses on the struggle of being a Traditional NDN (Indian) making their way in Colonized Society. Having been raised between the Pueblo of Acoma and the oil fields, Elle gained an insight into a reality of what it meant to them being an NDN (Indian) in modern society. Elle Nado is a multiple disciplinary artist, primarily working in Print work, Painting, Photography, and Poetry. Elle’s printworks are predominantly produced in black ink, this allows the viewer to look at the image itself and to look beyond. They explore color through their paintings having been influenced by Lawrence Paul Yuxweluptun and Vincent Van Gogh. Elle’s photography is influenced by daily chaos, that is life. Elle Nado’s poetry has been their longest produced work within poetry they allow themselves to be exposed and has begun to delve into Mental Health on the Rez.
Elle Nado was part of NM 25 Artists Under 25, placed in several categories throughout their time at IAIA, and was awarded the 2021 AIHEC Slam Poet Laureate. More to do.
